In one of his interviews, Tadge notes that a torque converter automatic transmission played really well with AFM. Or something to that effect. If it really is as transparent as they claim, I'm fine with the system in Eco mode or Wimp mode or whatever they want to call it. My A8 is an early car so ticking towards it's fifth birthday already. I've recently had the recommended transmission fluid change.
The old type of fluid can absorb water whereas the latest magic juice from Mobil 1 can't. The fluid change should prevent any torque converter problems. This plugs into the OBD port and puts the car permanently into V8 mode without any changes to the onboard programming. It makes for a nicer drive in situations where the engine would otherwise be shuffling between 4 and 8 cylinder operation.

My silverado can not use an after market exhaust because of this 8 to 4 when cruising. Good question, dutch. How does AFM impact the exhaust?
I have had Silverados that I put an after market exhaust on and if you were out driving and not in town the motor would go up and down in the RPM range. The one sound clip that was on this site sounded pretty good and I was just wondering. Got it. They have integrated sound control valves in the exhaust system just ahead of the mufflers on each side. They are supposed to modulate the sound in four cylinder mode to make it more pleasing to the ear.
How affective they will be is probably subjective, and will cause more controversy on the forums. These are not to be confused with the valves in the muffler outlets that come with the dual mode NPP exhaust option.
With NPP you will actually have four valves; two before the mufflers and two after the mufflers. All are now electric as opposed to the vacuum operated valves used with the previous NPP option.
